I think that I wouldn't want the whole world to know what I would write in a personal journal. What is the purpose of this? (Other than class- I mean in the world wide sense)
I always used them as a way to keep in touch with my old college friends and up to speed with what they have been up to... However with this comes the unavoidable (and extremely unwanted) drama--friends get into arguments over miscommunication of some sort. This is why I don't "blog" a whole lot anymore.
I use blogs as a way to work through ideas that are bubbling in my head. I don't get into personal stuff for the very reason Andread mentions, plus I want to keep a separation between my personal and public life. But I find blogs to be very helpful for working through ideas and getting feedback on those ideas. It's a way of joining a large conversation about things that are important to me.
